Ryan Corey is credited with the art direction and design of the album's visuals. The accompanying photography for the album was done by Oli Erskine. The idea of including an octopus on the cover art (which appears on some editions) was brought to the band by lead singer Shirley Manson, who saw the creature as a metaphor for the band's solitary, multi-limbed way of working.
